During the painting workshop I was shown the work of Zebedee Jones, I found his work especially interesting due to his application of paint. His way of working is to generously layer paint, by doing this he subtly works further in with more paint, etching, incised lines, elements of drawing, scored parallel lines, his work has such expressive detail. I admire the depth and texture Jones gives his work, even when using one colour, however the dynamic range is even further increased by his use of bright and lively colours. Another element of Zebedee Jones' work I find interesting is that his work isn't always confined to his canvas, as shown in some of his work shown below, the layers of paint come away from their base, giving his work appear more 3D.
I tried to work a little in his style during the painting workshop; I loved the feeling of layering the paint with both traditional tools and using my hands to build up layers on my paintings.
