DAVID SHRIGLEY
I chose to look at the work of David Shrigley because I really enjoy the uncomfortable and comedic value of his illustrations. His work doesn’t specifically relate to my work in my ‘Drawing Life’ sketchbook however I had a doodle sketch book over the summer which relates quite well to his work. Shrigley’s artistic style has and almost childlike aspect to his drawing, I think his
work is so successful because of this and its unexpected nature.
FRIDA KAHLO
I’ve admired Frida Kahlo’s artwork from a very young age, the bright colours and autobiographical style to her work always made her stand out to me. Kahlo started painting after she was severely injured in a bus accident, these paintings were mainly self-portraits, showing the physical and emotional impact this accident had on her. She later documented her turbulent marriage and her miscarriage. She claims to have painted her own reality. Her artwork was deeply influenced by Mexican culture, which is clear due to the bright colours and symbolism in her work.
