Felixmüller was a German expressionist print maker and painter. From the age of 18, he was already working as an independant artist, having taught himself various printing techniques. His early work was heavily influenced by expressionism and captured scenes of his daily life, in colourful graphic landscapes and portrait work. His style changed in the 1930's to more the more realistic, narrative subjects and muted colour palates. During his artistic career he created over 400 wood cuts, 150 etchings and 88 lithographs.
I find his work a really interesting take on observing life, especially the figurative pieces shown below, all of which are woodcut prints. Printing is something I've really enjoyed in my own work, I've never done any woodcuts but it's definitely something i would like to try. Included are some of my own drawings I think would translate well in Felixmüllers artistic style.
